BetterX is a browser extension that lets you customize X/Twitter. This policy explains the information BetterX handles and why.
1. Information BetterX handles
Account information
When you choose to sign in, start a trial, or use Premium, BetterX processes your email address. We use it to send a one-time sign-in code and to associate your trial or subscription with your account. BetterX does not use passwords.
The extension stores an account authentication token in Chrome local storage after you sign in. The token is sent over HTTPS only to BetterX to check your account, trial, or Premium entitlement.
Extension settings
BetterX stores your selected settings locally in Chrome storage. These can include choices such as hidden X page elements, timeline width, media preferences, trial information when local trial mode is enabled, and your signed-in account token. These settings are not used for advertising.
X/Twitter page content
To provide its features, BetterX reads and processes the X/Twitter page that you are viewing, including page structure, posts, replies, profile details, images, and videos. This processing happens in your browser to hide selected elements, render replies inline, and provide media controls. BetterX does not send X/Twitter page content to BetterX servers.
Subscription information
For account and subscription management, BetterX stores your email address, trial dates, subscription plan, subscription status, Stripe customer or subscription identifiers, and account session records. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number, security code, or bank-account details.
2. How we use information
We use this information only to provide and maintain BetterX: to apply your settings, authenticate you, deliver a sign-in code, start and administer trials, confirm Premium access, process cancellation requests, prevent abuse, and support the service.
We do not sell personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or use X/Twitter content to build advertising profiles.
3. Service providers and sharing
We share information only with providers needed to operate the service:
- Stripe provides hosted checkout and payment processing. Stripe handles payment details under its own privacy policy.
- Email delivery providers deliver the one-time sign-in code to the email address you provide.
- X/Twitter receives requests your browser makes while you use its website, as it normally would when you browse X/Twitter.
We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect the security, rights, and reliability of BetterX and its users.
4. Retention and deletion
We keep account and subscription records for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain billing records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. One-time sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes. Account sessions expire after 30 days unless you sign out sooner.
You can remove locally stored extension settings and tokens by signing out or uninstalling BetterX. To request deletion of your BetterX account, contact us at [email protected]. Payment records held by Stripe are subject to Stripe’s retention practices and applicable law.
5. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures, including HTTPS and hashed server-side session tokens, to protect account information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Chrome Web Store disclosure
BetterX uses information obtained through Chrome APIs only to provide and improve the extension’s user-facing features, in line with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy and its Limited Use requirements.
7. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when BetterX changes. We will publish the revised version here and update the date above. For privacy questions, contact [email protected].
